Alexander Korotko – is a poet-philosopher. His readers and admirers belong to intellectual elite. Echo of Silver Age, traditions of classical poetry and expressive modernistic trend are intertwined in his creative woks. Poetic thought has an original form that has no analogues in literature.
Alexander Korotko started his “official” carrier in literature in the late 80s when his first poems were published in “Literaturnaya gazeta”. His first collection of poems “Windows” was published in 1989. Nowadays he is the author of more than twenty books of poetry and prose. His creative works are included into poetic anthologies, literary miscellanies and magazines of Ukraine, Russia, USA and Israel. His poems were translated into Hebrew, English, French, German, Polish, Greek, Croatian, and Ukrainian. He is the member of PEN-club and the member of Union of writers of Israel. There are two bilingual collections of poems among his books: “On both sides of love” was translated into English and “Silence of anthill” was translated into French. He is the member of Russian PEN-club and the Union of Writers of Israel.
Anderi Voznesenskiy called him “an innovator and impressionist in poetry”, Andrei Bitov said that “Alexander Korotko’s thought is not a stanza, not a line but a word. It’s the main sign of up-to-dateness in his poetry”, and patriarch of Ukrainian literature Pavlo Zagrebalniy said : “The poems are not for reciting but for contemplation, for taking them in with your eyes….these poems let you live not in worldly vanity of everyday life but in great solitude where we are the people in the highest meaning of this word”.
Alexander Korotko works in the in genre of miniature with success: single-line poems, expressions that are similar to aphorisms, expressions with deep philosophic sense and emotionally-colored – from irony to satire. Alexander Korotko’s poetry also includes longer creative woks. He wrote poems “Abraham and Yishaq”, ”Venice”, ”Sun’s love”, ”Paris”, ... , long poetic series “Crimea”, “Cities” and “Artists”.
In 2008 – 2009 Alexander Korotko’s poetry was well-presented in the joint project of the fund “Ukraine Incognita” and Kiev publishing house “Fact”. Four books of Alexander Korotko were published. Two of them contain enclosed CD albums: a book of lyric poems “Silent songs” with preface of writer and journalist Vitaliy Korotich and the book of philosophic poems “I didn’t live on the earth” with the preface of literateur and philosopher Vadim Rabinovich. The book «I didn’t live on the earth” includes an audio album of poems performed by an actor, stage director and literary man Sergei Yurskiy.
Poetms of Alexander Korotko were recited from the stage. It was in the years when poetry attracted thousands of people. Last big project was «Evening of Poetry for Two» in Kiev (2000). Bella Akhmadulina and Alexander Korotko took part in this event and this evening completed the epoch of “big audience”. Alexander Korotko’s poetry became more chamber poetry recited from the stage for his audience. In March 2009 there was an evening of poetry in Jewish Cultural Center in Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street in Moscow. Some of the selected poems were recited by a special guest of the event Sergei Yurskiy.
Alexander Korotko was invited to the third “International Biannual of Poets in Moscow”. He took part in a series of radio programs of Israel radio station “Kol’ Israel” and “Reka”. Alexander Korotko’s play “Heavenly being’s area” was staged in Kiev vanguard theatre “Theatre in Podol” in 2001. It’s based on Alexander Korotko’s poems. The play was in the repertoire of the theatre for several years and later it was staged in Kiev National Ivan Franko Drama Theatre. The play “Abraham and Yishaq” was published in Israel (in Russia and in Hebrew).
In 2012 a book of selected stories “There are birds of love separation” was published in New-York publishing house «Liberty». In 2013–2014 more than one hundred poems, novels and a series of essays about writers and artists were written.
