Bridges of Poetry: a Polish scholar shares her translations with a Ukrainian poet

Ukrainian poet Oleksandr Korotko recently received a letter from Professor Anna Bednarczyk of the University of Łódź, with whom he has been fruitfully collaborating on translations of his poetry into Polish.

With Professor Bednarczyk’s permission, we are sharing the full text of her personal letter. It is not only a gesture of respect, but also a subtle testimony to how deeply poetry can touch the human soul.

In the letter, she shares the emotions that accompanied her work on the translations and kindly asks the poet to evaluate the results.

Below is the translation of her letter from Polish:

“I am writing to you in connection with the poetry that, in recent months, has taken a special place in my heart and soul.
Over the past three months, I have fully devoted myself to working on the poems, putting a great deal of time and my own self into them.
I believe the results of my intense efforts are truly exceptional and reflect my deepest emotions and thoughts. In every word, in every line, I strove to capture the essence of beauty and truth, which I believe reflects the genius of a true Poet.
These new poems are more than a demonstration of literary skill for me. I see them as an expression of passion and dedication that permeate every stanza.
I am convinced that my intense creative labor and personal sacrifice have yielded results worthy of attention.
With deep respect, I kindly ask you to evaluate these poems, and I hope they will be received with dignity.
I sincerely thank you in advance for your attention and time.”
