The Clockmaker Sylvester

In a small town, where the rooftops dozed under the moonlight, there lived a unique master of clockmaking — Sylvester.

He created magical clocks: their hands turned backwards and showed not the present, but the past.

Every morning he placed new clocks in the window of his workshop. Their dials seemed to preserve the reflections of memories.

It was enough to look at such a clock — and a person could once again hear what seemed long forgotten: the drops of yesterday’s rain, a friend’s laughter, or the smell of freshly baked morning bread.

“Why do we need such clocks?” passersby wondered.

Sylvester replied:
“These clocks do not measure time. They teach their owners to enjoy the silence, to listen, and to gaze at the beauty of our world.”

One day, a little girl with golden braids entered the workshop. She confessed:
“My heart beats so fast after playing with my friends that I cannot fall asleep.”

Sylvester took out a clock without hands and said:
“This clock will help your heart to calm down.”

The girl pressed the clock to her chest, and that very night she fell asleep soundly and peacefully.
