The latest political events, which caused a certain deterioration of relations between Ukraine and Poland, also affected the literary world.
Thus, the publication of Oleksandr Korotko’s military poetry in Polish translation has been postponed until the end of 2024.
However, in the literary circles of Poland, the poetry of Oleksandr Korotko is highly appreciated and they hope for a quick solution to the situation.
A letter recently received from Polish colleagues stated the following:
“We would like to publish the bilingual (PL/UA) book of war poems by two poets: Polish – Jarosław Mikołajewski and Ukrainian – Alexander Korotko – as a part of project Books without Borders that we have now in Fundacja Powszechnego Czytania.
The edition is planned for the end of 2024 because of the political crises between Ukraine and Poland in 2023. Now this edition was stopped by our authorities.
I have now the poems of Mr Korotko (I feel that the last poems “BlackOut” are the most actual and important, aren’t they? The poems are very powerful and stronger than in War Poems).
I am waiting for war poems from Jarosław Mikołajewski.
Then we will be able to choose these poems which can be published together – as a one good book.
I think to ask Jarosław Mikołajewski, who is also an editor, translator and journalist, to help us to choose poems and put them in a specific order. And we will also need Ukrainian translation of poems by Mr Mikołajewski.
So please give me yet a little time. When I have all the poems (Ukrainian and Polish) and when we choose these to publish, I will be in touch with you.
At the same time a very good Polish designer is preparing the graphic project of the book (and the series) – I am sure it will look great!
Be sure I keep an eye on the book!”
