Renowned Ukrainian theatre and film actress Ada Rogovtseva has performed Alexander Korotko’s narrative poem “Stus” in its Ukrainian translation by Olha Ilchuk.
Ada Rogovtseva is a Hero of Ukraine, a People’s Artist of Ukraine, and a recipient of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine. She devoted more than 35 years to the stage of the Lesya Ukrainka Theatre in Kyiv. Among her notable theatrical roles are performances in “Warsaw Melody”, “The Cherry Orchard”, and “To Hope”, in which she portrayed Lesya Ukrainka.
Poetry holds a special place in Ada Rogovtseva’s artistic career. The actress is also the author of a poetry collection entitled “A Mother’s Prayers”.
In this new performance of “Stus”, poetry is interwoven with documentary material: excerpts from Vasyl Stus’s diaries are read by Alexander Korotko himself.
The recording thus brings together two voices: Ada Rogovtseva leads the poetic narrative, while Alexander Korotko gives voice to Vasyl Stus’s personal reflections.
