“Baer and Cucumber” new book of prose by Alexander Korotko

Cooperation with the Kiev publishing house “SUMMIT-BOOK” continues. Following the book of selected poetry, a collection of prose by Alexander Korotko was published, in which there are two novels, several short stories and etudes. In fact, these are “Odessa Tales”, however, they are completely different from prose books with the same title of their famous predecessor. Odessa is a unique place that has given literature a wide variety of models associated with the names of Babel, Kataev, Olesha, Ilf and Petrov and many, many others … For Alexander Korotko Odessa is the city of his childhood and youth, which may be why the very serious pieces included in the collection are brimming with the philosophical generalizations so necessary for modern literature, as well as digressions into poetry, such as the piercingly accurate and tender memories of famous Odessa courtyards with vivid images of their inhabitants. In the texts, the reader will encounter the writer’s distinctively innovative style – a complex interweaving of the plot with elements of a detective story, mysticism, psychology, philosophy and gentle humour. Central to the pieces is a great diversity of human destinies and characters, with many main characters providing “humanized” images of the city and the sea.
